What are Clay Conversations?
Clay Conversations
are interactive, conversational sessions scheduled to take place on Wednesday (the first day of the annual NCECA conference). The purpose of these sessions is to foster collegiality and communication between conference attendees with shared interests. Rather than formal presentations, these sessions are meant to initiate dialogue early in the conference week and enable those with similar interests to meet up so that they can sustain communication throughout the conference and beyond. All session leaders should be prepared to facilitate highly interactive discussion groups on the topic proposed. The proposer of the session should indicate whether the intention is to make formal introductory remarks or simply share questions for group reflection during the session. Facilitators are encouraged to invite additional questions from participants.
Please use the application if you are interested in convening a group of people to share discussion surrounding a topic you care about. Alternate submission portals exist for those who wish to make formal presentations at the conference. Image presentation technology will not be available during Clay Conversations sessions.
NCECA reserves the right to curate and develop programming that strengthens the quality and range of experiences related to the conference theme, sense of place, and other strategic objectives. If you have questions about leading a Clay Conversation group, contact Director at Large, Zach Tate
zach.nceca@gmail.com
FORMAT
• Sessions are 1 hour in length. Proposed topics and discussions should utilize the time allotted.
• Presenters should create proposals that are not dependent upon technology (i.e. projectors and laptops will
NOT
be available).
ELIGIBILITY
Everyone is eligible EXCEPT for those who participated in the program in Minneapolis, MN during NCECA 2019. Participation is generally limited to only one presentation.
APPLICATION PROCESS

***IMPORTANT***
Although the system that supports this submission form does not currently include an active word counter, NCECA asks all applicants to note and adhere to word count limitations that are identified in open fields.
The best way to do this for most applicants will be to compose responses to these open fields first utilizing the word-processing software on your computer or device and take advantage of the included word-counting tools.
Once composed, proofed, and counted, you can copy your text from your local word processing software into the appropriate fields in the form. Please note that in some instances, special characters copied from word processing platforms may be converted in the form system. For this reason, we caution applicants on the use of special characters where not absolutely necessary.
NCECA reserves the right to exclude applications that disregard word count limits and to edit any and all text submitted for reasons ranging from space allocation to style, fluency of language, and grammatical concerns.
